Cut Wire :

Cut Wire abrasives are produced by cutting wire into lengths to the wire diameter. General purpose of cut wire abrasives are cleaning, de-scaling, de-burring, de-flashing and shot peening on components of iron and steel.

Cut Wire abrasives are produced in two types: 1- Cylindrical cut wire (as-cut) 2- conditioned cut wire

Cylindrical cut wire, which is also known as wire pallets, is cut at the length/diameter ratio = 1. They have an abrasive effect due to the sharp edges appeared during the cutting process. Cylindrical cut wire is used as blast material, in various industries. The cylindrical shape of the cut wire shots helps prevent denting and dust. We offer this product at competitive market prices and tailor made as per the specific requirements of our clients.  

As-cut shot is not a desirable shot peening media. The sharp edges, which are potentially damaging to fatigue life, must be removed in a process called "conditioning”, so if required, the particles are conditioned (rounded) to remove the sharp corners produced during the cutting process. Strict Quality Control procedures are required to be able to manufacture cut wire shot meeting all common industry specifications as well as many individual customer specifications.

Spherical conditioned cut wire shot is obtained after cutting the wire, through the conditioning (rounding) process. During this process we are obtaining several conditioned forms G1 (normal conditioned), G2 (double conditioned) and G3 (special conditioned), where G3 is the perfect rounded particle; it is a sphere. (Figure 2)

Spherical conditioned cut wire is used more in the shot peening process; it is used in different industries, such as automotive industry, aerospace industry, medical industry, shipping industry, etc.

Conditioned Cut Wire (CCW) meets the shape requirements of SAE J441 specification, and the more rounded Special Conditioning which meets the requirements of Aerospace specifications such as AMS 2431.

Depending on application, various hardness ranges are available with cut wire media.  However for shot peening applications, the shot used should be at least as hard as Almen strips or the part being peened, whichever is harder. Common Hardness Ranges in Carbon Steel Cut Wire Shot are: Blasting Applications - HRC 45-50; Shot Peening high strength parts such as carburized gears and springs HRC 55-60; and Shot Peening softer parts - HRC 50-55.
